In a context marked by the intensification of environmental and climate challenges, the organization NATURELCD has officially launched a new environmental education program titled “Nature Educ,” aimed at raising awareness among communities about ecological issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This initiative is part of the activities of the Local Climate Forum of the Cassandra Conference DRC and the Kivu Climate Action Program, implemented by La Prunelle RDC asbl, which seeks to strengthen community engagement and civic responsibility in addressing environmental challenges.
To expand its impact, the program will be broadcast in several cities in the eastern part of the country, including:
- In the city of Butembo, viewers and listeners will be able to follow the program on Moto TV, Radio Moto Butembo-Beni (102.0 MHz), and La Voix de l’UOR (95.0 MHz).
- In Beni, listeners will be able to follow the program on Radio RTR Beni (93.5 MHz) and Radio Oasis Beni (89.5 MHz).
- In Bukavu, the program will be broadcast on La Prunelle FM (100.9 MHz) and will also be relayed by Radio Beroya FM (105.0 MHz).
Through this media initiative, NATURELCD aims to promote a stronger environmental culture within local communities and encourage responsible behavior in response to ecological challenges.
Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement
The program “Nature Educ” is part of a broader effort to promote environmental awareness and education, aimed at strengthening citizens’ knowledge about nature protection, sustainable management of natural resources, and the impacts of climate change.
According to the project’s initiators, environmental education is an essential lever for helping communities understand ecological challenges and adopt more sustainable practices. The program therefore aims to encourage behavioral change, promote community engagement, and contribute to the development of a new generation of environmental leaders.
“Environmental education is essential so that every citizen understands their role in protecting the planet. With Nature Educ, we hope to inspire concrete actions within local communities,” said Denise Kyalwahi, Coordinator of NATURELCD.
Strengthening Environmental Culture
Through “Nature Educ,” the organization seeks to contribute to the dissemination of environmental knowledge and values among the general public. The program will address several themes, including ecosystem protection, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and adaptation to climate change.
In a country endowed with immense natural resources but facing growing environmental challenges, such media initiatives appear to be essential tools for raising public awareness and encouraging more responsible environmental management.
Key topics that will be discussed include:
- Protection of ecosystems and biodiversity
- Sustainable management of natural resources
- Waste reduction and the fight against pollution
- Adaptation to the impacts of climate change
- Water as a driving force for a sustainable planet
- Zero plastic waste for a sustainable and prosperous planet
